Our students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in student affairs offices, both at Kent State and in a variety of other types of institutions in the area.
Assistantships
Many HIED students gain valuable work experience and receive help to finance their education through graduate assistantships at colleges and universities throughout northeast Ohio. Assistantships include assignments in various areas of student affairs, such as residence life, greek affairs, academic advising. Admitted students are invited to campus for a 2-day event in March during which they meet other students in the program, interact with faculty, and interview for assistantships. This event, called GA Days, will be March 1-2, 2009.
Practicum Fair
The Practicum Fair, sponsored by GRASPP, is held each year in the fall. It features higher education professionals seeking practicum students, and provides opportunties for current students to both hear a short presentation and talk with prospective site supervisors.
Students in at least their second semester in the program can pursue these internship opportunities. Students can also learn more about the practicum experience through the Practicum Manual.
Summer Internships
Some students also pursue internship opportunities beyond Northeast Ohio. Here are examples from summer 2008:
