If you are thinking about moving an existing program or course to online delivery, there is support available and steps to follow to be successful. The procedures have been developed to provide the most appropriate support. To start the process, consult with the Director of Technology and Distance Education. 330-672-0543

Steps to Develop a Program for Distance Delivery

  1. Program Coordinator meets with Director of Technology and Distance Education to propose development of a program for online delivery
  2. Program faculty meet with Director to plan program development
  3. Proposal created and sent to funding sources for course development support
  4. Program faculty meet with Director to complete program development plan
  5. Timeline developed for course completion and program delivery dates
  6. Template for program designed
  7. Individual course development begins, faculty work with Educational Technologist
  8. Feedback about the process and support provided throughout development stage.

Steps to Develop a Course for Web-based Delivery

  1. Consult with Director of Technology and Distance Education to begin process
  2. Use Course Development Guidelines to help with course design
  3. Write goals and objectives for the course (results for student learning)
  4. Determine teaching activities (projects, discussion, collaboration, research)
  5. Design Assessments (tests, presentations, rubrics, project evaluation)
  6. Issues/concerns about moving a course to online delivery
    • How much needs to be put in digital format
    • What tools/software you plan to use (PPT, multimedia, discussion, podcasting, etc.)
    • What assistance will you need
      • WebCT workshop or tutorial
      • Assistance with video, audio, multimedia
  7. Think about your individual teaching style – how it can work in an online course
  8. Create a timeline for course development
  9. Request a Vista course with the template for the program
  10. Faculty work with assigned MM developer to create course
  11. Request assistance of Director of DE as needed for support

Steps to Develop a Course for Videoconferencing Delivery

  1. Consult with Director of Technology and Distance Education to begin process
  2. Use Videoconferencing guidelines to help with course design and delivery
  3. Issues/concerns about moving a course to videoconferencing delivery
    • What needs to be provided to students (handouts, syllabus, lecture notes, etc.)
    • What is the best way to provide the information (on website, email, etc.)
    • What tools/software you plan to use (PPT, multimedia, discussion, podcasting, etc.)
    • What assistance will you need
      • Creation of a website for supplimental materials
      • Workshop or tutorials on software
      • Assistance with video, audio, multimedia
  4. Think about your individual teaching style - how will it translate with the technology
  5. Schedule a training session to learn about the videoconferencing equipment
  6. Request assistance of Director as needed for support
