M.Ed. Program Requirements:
The Master of Education degree requires a minimum of 32 semester hours of graduate coursework including at least 16 semester hours at the 6000 level or above. A major consisting of 18 or more semester hours in the Graduate School of Education is required. The Universal Professional Requirements (UPR) for master's degree programs must be included. No thesis is required.
M.A. Program Requirements:
The Master of Arts degree is similar to the M.Ed. with the exception of a thesis requirement. This option is favored by students who are seeking an opportunity to become involved in empirical or library-based research during their master's studies.
NEW UNIVERSAL PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
MASTER'S AND EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST DEGREE PROGRAMS
(effective Fall 1997)
Students must select one course (3 cr) from the Research category. They may substitute a UPR approved program area research course. Students must select one course (3 cr) from the Psychological Foundations or Social and Cultural Foundations categories.
Ph.D. Program Requirements:
Prior to the Comprehensive Examination, the Ph.D. program in Cultural Foundations requires the following credit hours:
- 18 credit hours of Universal Professional Requirements,
- 39 credit hours in the major,
- 9 credits in electives/cognate or minor.
Beyond the bachelor's degree, a minimum of 66 credit hours of coursework are required. However, the length of a student's degree course program may vary, depending upon the number of hours brought into the program, the major emphasis, and selection of a minor or cognate. After successfully completing the comprehensive examination, dissertation credits must be registered until graduation.
